Laura White switches on the Christmas lights Laura White came to Bloomsbury on Friday 20th November to switch on the centre’s Christmas lights. It was all ‘white on the night’ as snow fluttered down over the four thousand shoppers and well-wishers who packed in to the centre to meet Laura, sample mince pies handed out by the Brunswick angels and enjoy the singing. As well as switching on the Christmas lights, Laura also performed an a number of covers, as well as her own newly released single, You Should Have Known. The locally-based Choir with No Name also performed and Laura came down into the mall area amidst her fans to take a front row seat at the UCLU choir’s performance under the tree. Due to an electrical surge there was an unfortunate delay to the proceedings when the sound decks failed, but it did at least mean that Laura had more time to sign autographs and meet her fans. The fans remained and waited patiently in the snow for Laura’s performance and the switching-on of the Brunswick lights and they were not disappointed. The lights were switched on at 7.15pm to a rapturous reception. ‘Laura was fantastic’ said centre manager David Plumb, ‘and went down to meet the thousands of fans who had come out to see her. They turned out seeing a lot more of their idol than was originally planned so, despite the inconvenience, maybe every cloud does have a silver lining!’
